12 Aries - World Eaters

The XII Legion

Aries are often considered one of the most (if not the most) headstrong signs in the zodiac, and with that comes a lot of talk about how they can be ruled by anger. This sounds rather like the World Eaters space marines.

Granted, like the World Eaters pre-heresy, Aries can find it easy to slip into anger or aggressive emotions, but that is usually reserved for those times when someone or something close to them has been threatened.

Taurus are often described as even-headed, and often caring, but not usually ruled by their emotions. Of all the space marine legions out there, the Salamanders are some of the ones that embody those ideals the most.

Salamanders are some of the most Stoic legionaries out there, but rarely to the point that their primarch Vulkan is. They're hard to anger and keep their cool regardless of how hot the fires are around them.

10 Gemini - Alpha Legion

The XX Legion

Throughout the Warhammer 40k lore, the thing that you'll hear the most about the Alpha Legion is that they're two-faced. It is often said about Gemini too, that they have two personalities. But, this actually comes from somewhere good.

Gemini are good at multitasking and being self-serving while also being helpful to others, which isn't an inherently bad thing. They know what they want and how to get it; the Alpha Legion is the same way, although they won't tell you what their goals truly are.

9 Cancer - Emperor's Children

The III Legion

As with most legions, heretic legions especially, the Emperor's Children take normal human emotions and needs and have heightened them. They are most like the Cancer sign, surprisingly, although they have taken the traits that make them similar to new heights post-heresy.

The Emperor's Children are ruled by pride and self-fulfillment, which sounds selfish, but with the right temperament, it is an incredible driving force, like it is in most Cancers. Their need to be at home with themselves is their goal on most occasions, a trait that the Emperor's Children though, have perverted.

8 Leo - Dark Angels

The I Legion

No, not just because of the lion motifs. The Dark Angels, despite their secrecy where some of the lore is concerned, follow the traits of the Leo zodiac sign quite well, but both being related to lions doesn't hurt.

It is actually some of the traits that people consider leonine that connect the two. Strength and toughness, both physical and mental, are big tenets of the Dark Angels and Leos, especially when you consider how Johnson runs his legion and the world they came from.

7 Virgo - Ultramarines

The XIII Legion

Many consider the Ultramarines to be the go-to legion for space marines, especially where video games are concerned. This has earned them status among fans of Warhammer 40k as both the workhorse and the overlooked legion.

Virgos can be the same way; they are often marked by being quite hard-working and humble, but the louder and more emotionally ruled signs. Virgos may be considered overlooked, but they shouldn't be slept on.

6 Libra - Raven Guard

The XIX Legion

Libras are air signs and are often considered one of the more romantic and artistic signs out there. They also have a push towards balance and calm, which connects them in a few ways to the Raven Guard legion.

They are rather somber, but often see the beauty in everyday life and its temporary nature. They are shown after the heresy with a fierce loyalty to one another and a need to re-adjust the balance after the traitor legions turned.

5 Scorpio - Blood Angels

The IX Legion

The Blood Angels are a fiercely loyal and sometimes misunderstood space marine legion. This is mainly due to their deep emotional and mental connection to one another, one that causes them great turmoil to see others hurt.

This can also often be said about Scorpios, who are a more emotionally led sign, but one that is also fiercely loyal to their friends and family. As with any high emotional register, it can make others consider them irritable, but really that's only if you do something to hurt someone they care about.

4 Sagittarius - Thousand Sons

The XV Legion

Sagittarius are often marked for their passion for the arts and intellectual pursuits. They will hunt for new opportunities to test themselves and learn more, sometimes to the point of pushing themselves too far.

Fans of the lore will see the connection there between Sagittarius and the Thousand Sons who have pushed themselves throughout Warhammer 40k to superhuman lengths (and beyond) in the pursuit of greater knowledge.

The X Legion

Those that fall under the Capricorn zodiac sign are unique for a few things, but perhaps most of all, it's their toughness that often leans into Stoicism. They are unflappable when it comes to what life throws at them, especially when it is something they care dearly about.

The Imperial Fists are somewhat similar to the Iron Hands when it comes to their Stoic nature, but like the Aquarius sign that they are close to on the zodiac, they are also marked by other qualities that make them unique.

An air sign, Aquarius are known for wanting things their way and being rather proud of their accomplishments; none of that is a bad thing, like any of the signs, it's how far one takes it. This is quite similar to the Imperial Fists and their passion for machinery and structure, especially when their rivalry with the Iron Warriors.

The Word Bearers get a bad rap post-heresy, which is fair considering everything they've done, but it can be seen in the 30k books how it was normal human ambitions that brought them to that point. The Word Bearers in many ways embody the same traits as Pisces.

It is their love for academic pursuits, but their constant battle with their higher emotions that pulls them in two directions. This we can see easily with the Word Bearers and their intelligence, but how it was swayed by their pride and need to be seen by The Emperor.
