“It was a night of minor catastrophes.” First, there was a blackout in Andrea Savage’s hotel as she was preparing for the New York City premiere of her new series Tulsa King, airing now on Paramount+, and later, her dress strap broke between the show’s screening and its afterparty.

“I was in the car with one of my agents and one of my managers, and we went by Duane Reade to get a needle and thread,” Savage, who plays a federal agent in the Tyler Sheridan-created series about a mobster (Sylvester Stallone) who’s recently been sprung from prison. “None of us could thread the needle, but my wonderful driver put on his glasses and was like, ‘I can do this.’ He did, and my manager sewed me in; we really made it work. It might have been done half-assed, but I was in the dress and got to the party.”

Luckily, the rest of the evening went off without a hitch. Here, Savage shares how she got ready for the big night with Town & Country.

"Usually I come in going, I don’t know, what do you guys want to do? This time, I wanted to do a nod to vintage glamour Italian-style, with a slight nod to Sophia Loren. I shot a text to Tara Swennen, my amazing stylist, and she pulled something from Dolce & Gabbana, which I’ve been wearing a lot lately. It was literally the first thing she pulled and was the first thing I tried on. I was like 'I love this,' right away, but kept trying other things on and nothing else came close."

"In the middle of getting ready, the power went out in my hotel room. The phones didn’t work, the doors didn’t work, we couldn’t get in touch with anybody. It was only for about 25 minutes but it was pitch black and we couldn’t keep going, so it was very stressful. I was wondering, am I going to make it to this premiere? But the lights came back on and we finished up; I was late, but I got there."

"This was post-blackout, getting texts like 'when are you going to be here?' I didn’t know what was going to happen! I’m not a big drinker, and I rarely drink before an event, but I was having a sparkling water, lime, and tequila. We put it in Matthew [Monzon, my hair stylist]’s water cup so I wouldn’t spill on myself. It looked like I was drinking spa water, but it was actually tequila. It felt like it needed to happen."

"The heels on these Stuart Weitzman shoes are at least six inches, but they have a platform so they’re surprisingly not hellish. I’ve worn them a couple of times because they give me the height I want in a dress, and the platform keeps the heel from being too crazy. And this is the view from my window, which was of Central Park with the fall leaves changing. It was such a beautiful, magical time in New York City. I had a press day, a premiere day, and another press day, so I didn’t get to enjoy it a ton, but I did get to walk through the park one afternoon. The view was so beautiful, that even being in hair and makeup six times in three days was OK."

"Sly and I are clearly finding something hilarious. We’re obviously enjoying something, and this photo just makes me laugh. It was great to see my cast mates, who I hadn’t seen since the end of August. We spent five months in Oklahoma together, so we really bonded as we were all away from home. This was one of those jobs where you really form connections with people."

"I shared the same Italian glamour idea with Matthew Monzon about my hair, and he put in curlers. Rebecca Restrepo kept my makeup fresh, in the same vein but with a modern take. This whole look just came together so well. I often can’t wear dresses like this, but this time I could! It had a sophistication and a sexiness to it, and as one of the only women on Tulsa King, that’s what I wanted to feel. I put it on and just felt great."

"Usually, I try to be relatively healthy. But the night of the premiere, I’d had a little food before I left but didn’t eat all night. When I got back to the hotel, I ordered what might be the biggest cheeseburger I’ve ever seen. I though, oh, I’ll just have a little bit, but I ate almost all of it. It was delicious."
